Entretiens |

|
The first “Entretiens sur l’Antiquité Classique” occurred in 1952. In the forward of the volume in which they were subsequently printed, the Foundation’s creator, Baron Kurd von Hardt gave the following definition: “Each year, at the Foundation’s home in Vandœuvres, the “Entretiens sur l’Antiquité Classique” will be organized, during which specialists from across the world will speak about their chosen fields, and in the course of further discussions, will thus enable an enriching exchange of views”.
Conceived and finalized by renowned scholars - Ludwig Curtius, Bruno Snell, Kurt von Fritz, Albin Lesky, Theodor Lauser and Olof Gigon amongst others – the Foundation thus became an established institution. Since its creation, every summer for over fifty-six years, researchers have gathered at Vandœuvres. They have spoken on a vast array of topics covering not only Greek-Latin literature and philology, but also Ancient and Philosophical History, Religion and Classical studies in general.
The results of the “Entretiens sur l’Antiquité Classique” and their proceedings continue to be published annually, forming a unique collection of works. Fifty-six volumes have been published so far, nearly all of them available from our distributors.
This year the “Entretiens” will be held from 23rd to 27th August 2010, with the theme “Entre Orient et Occident: la philosophie et la science gréco-romaines dans le monde arabe”.
