{"id":439,"date":"2014-04-29T06:48:20","date_gmt":"2014-04-29T05:48:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.fondationhardt.ch\/?page_id=439"},"modified":"2025-12-02T10:03:08","modified_gmt":"2025-12-02T08:03:08","slug":"la-fondation_en","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.fondationhardt.ch\/en\/la-fondation_en\/","title":{"rendered":"The Foundation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In the aftermath of World War II, Baron Kurd von Hardt (1889-1958), having no successor, decided to invest his fortune in an enterprise dedicated to reconciling Europeans through the study of their common heritage in classical culture.<br \/>\nHe created a library specializing in Greek and Latin authors, ancient history and philosophy. This project became a Foundation in 1949.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Aims of the Foundation<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>To invite and accommodate <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fondationhardt.ch\/?page_id=457&amp;lang=en\">scholars<\/a> wishing to pursue research at the Foundation. This includes access to a <a title=\"The library\" href=\"http:\/\/www.fondationhardt.ch\/?page_id=416&amp;lang=en\">specialised library<\/a> of almost 40,000 volumes in a unique setting with unparalleled conditions for study and research, for a modest financial contribution. <a title=\"Research scholarships\" href=\"http:\/\/www.fondationhardt.ch\/?page_id=458&amp;lang=en\">Scholarships<\/a> may be obtained for researchers up to the age of 35. <strong>Period open in 2026: February the 2nd to November the 27th<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>To organise the <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fondationhardt.ch\/?page_id=396&amp;lang=en\">Entretiens sur l\u2019Antiquit\u00e9 classique<\/a><\/em>, an annual conference on a particular theme attended by eminent scholars. The proceedings are published in a collection (70 available volumes, one upcoming in 2026).<\/li>\n<li>To make its <a title=\"Conferences and events\" href=\"http:\/\/www.fondationhardt.ch\/?page_id=384&amp;lang=en\">facilities<\/a> (main house, orangery, greenhouse and garden) available for meetings, colloquia and seminars around a variety of themes in which classical Antiquity has a prominent, but not exclusive, place.
